The scientific term for an egg cell. A mature oocyte is capable of being fertilized.
In IVF Treatment
After retrieval, the embryology lab evaluates oocyte maturity. Mature oocytes (MII stage) are suitable for fertilization with IVF or ICSI. Immature oocytes may occasionally be matured in the lab (IVM), but with lower success rates.
