Embryo Transfer(ET)
procedureDefinition
The procedure in which one or more embryos are placed into the uterus using a thin catheter guided by ultrasound.
In IVF Treatment
Transfer is typically performed on Day 3 (cleavage stage) or Day 5 (blastocyst). A fresh transfer occurs within the same stimulation cycle; a frozen embryo transfer (FET) uses cryopreserved embryos in a subsequent cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is embryo transfer painful?
Most patients describe transfer as a mild pressure similar to a pap smear. A full bladder is required for the ultrasound visualization, which can cause some discomfort.
What should I do after embryo transfer?
Follow your clinic guidance. Generally, light activity is fine. Bed rest has not been shown to improve outcomes. Avoid strenuous exercise, hot tubs, and alcohol during the two-week wait.
